All people have a unique combination of talents, knowledge, and skills – strengths – that they use in their daily lives to do their work, achieve their goals and interact with others. Gallup has found that when people understand and apply their strengths, the effect on their lives and work is transformational. People who use their strengths every day are six times more likely to be engaged in their work and three times more likely to say they have an excellent quality of life.

People who focus on using their strengths:

The CliftonStengths assessment contains 34 strengths spread across the four domains: influencing, relationship building, executing and strategic thinking.

The CliftonStrengths assessment is an easy to use online assessment that takes about 40 minutes to complete. Once completed, participants receive a full report of either their top 5 or FULL 34 strengths, depending on the option selected. See below, examples of the reports:

Once a participant has their report, they can use this to agree to a further development plan with their managers or coach.

How does the assessment work?

The CliftonStrengths assessment measures the presence of talents in 34 general areas referred to as “signature themes”. These signature themes represent how you naturally think, feel and behave as unique individuals.

The assessment presents 178 items to the respondent. Each item consists of a pair of potential self-descriptors, such as “I read instructions carefully” versus ” I like to jump right into things”.

The respondent is then asked to choose from that pair the statement that best describes him or her, and to what extent that chosen option is descriptive. The respondent gets 20 seconds to respond to a given pair of descriptors before the system moves on to the next pair.

Upon completing the CliftonStrengths assessment, respondents receive a report displaying their top 5 (most dominant) themes.

Become a Gallup-Certified coach 

Gallup’s have developed a certification program that ensures you will be fully qualified to provide strengths-based coaching to anyone, including individuals, teams, and managers.

What is the process to become a Gallup-Certified coach? 

  1. Complete the Accelerated Strengths Coaching 4.5-day programme (ASC)
  2. Coach 6 people who will rate you at an average of 4.5 out of 5
  3. Complete the Gallup exam (you have 6 months to complete the online, multiple choice, open-book examination)

The team dynamics workshop

In this one-day workshop that provides grounding for the unique strengths and contributions of each team member.  It teaches team members a better understanding of their independent roles and aims to expand and enhance their partnerships in order to build an interdependent team.

Strengths Development process:

When team members are aware of each other’s talent filters, they understand how each person is inclined to think, act and feel. This awareness helps the team navigate the issues all teams encounter. They understand how the team can best work together to accomplish its goals and performance objectives.

You will receive a CliftonStrengths Top 5 profile. We will use the profile to ensure that you are able to identify and understand your strengths. In this workshop you will:

Managing your strengths

Strengths can be used in very productive ways when their needs are met. But when a strength’s volume is turned up too high when its need goes unmet, it becomes very unproductive and can have a very negative impact on executing tasks and building relationships.

An example of this might be the strength of Responsibility. Responsibility needs the freedom to take ownership. If this theme is not trusted to take ownership, the person with this strength will experience much frustration that can become toxic. Responsibility also needs an environment that values quality. When this is not met, they can start to micromanage.

This “next-step” two-hour workshop builds on the concept of Basements and Balconies for your themes. Each member will work through their Top 5 themes to identify

  • What does each strength need to remain productive?
  • What happens when the strength becomes unproductive?
  • Build strategies to move a strength from being unproductive (basement) to being productive

This workshop is only available to teams that have completed either the Team Dynamics or Understanding Your Strengths workshop.

Be coached

Individual Strengths-Based Coaching builds on the CliftonStrengths Assessment by providing in-depth guidance on how to use your strengths in daily life, culminating in the creation of a powerful personal development plan. Partnering with an Emergence Growth Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach can be the difference between simply knowing your strengths and using your strengths to reach that next level of success.

The 6-session (90 minutes each) programme will introduce you to the power of strengths and how you can use your strengths to make a difference. You will gain tools, techniques, and invaluable experience to help understand yourself and others better.

They will assist you to achieve your maximum potential through the development of your inner qualities.

During this programme, you will learn how to integrate the principles of strengths-based development into your life by applying your greatest talents in your role and integrating your strengths to become more effective.

The types of conversations Gallup-certified strengths coaches conduct include:

  • Helping your client understand her strengths profile;
  • Helping your client gain awareness and appreciation of her talents; and
  • Helping your client begin to invest in developing her talents.

As a result, every coaching conversation has performance at its core and the person’s talents at its heart.
